Zed at Wetmachine

P.S. Forgive the lateness of my reply.

I’ve been embroiled in a savage piece of work, pressed within an inch of insanity, sourcing miracles from my back side, acting as if I were an eight-armed juggler, and so on and so forth. You know the drill. This happens whenever I take on a moonlighting gig. The storytelling stalls, and I forget to take the garbage out.

I’d undertaken a 3D conversion job, and it’s just now been put to bed. Details can be read here on the recently respawned Wetmachine website, hosted by American author John Sundman.

We’ll return to our regularly scheduled broadcasts as soon as probable.

Yours,

Cheeseburger Brown

Great piece. I'm interested to know the actual title of the piece so I can go out of my way to see it. I hadn't planned to see Shrek 4 in the theaters, but I might go if I know there is a CBB work in front of it.

Very cool.

That was an enjoyable and informative read. You made learning fun (and a bit scandalous).

Dear SaintPeter,

The thing is, the creative isn't mine -- just the plumbing. It's really nothing very exciting to see, just a 30 second blip of nonsense while you're waiting for your damn movie to start already.

Also, in the interest of keeping my professional Googleability nicely separated, I'm afraid I don't wish to identify the client brand here. But trust me, it's nothing to write home about.

Mark,

Thank you, sir. Learning without the scandalousness is a bit dry, in my opinion. That's what being a mammal is all about.

Cheeseburger Brown

I was just discussing 3d conversion with some friends last week, and I realized that I probably don't know as much about it as I pretended to. I'm looking forward to reading this.

Excellent piece. Thank you for taking us on the journey.

By the way, should I blame you or your ancestry for the abominable "Help Me Rhonda" perversion employed as hold music at Lute Riley Honda?

Dear Sheik,

Nothing I worked on in those days was cleared for public broadcast -- internal use only. Thus, no embarrassment for me!

heh.. 2D image to 3D surface extrapolation seems like it'd be a very difficult nut to crack software/automation-wise. I presumed that because all these people are able to do things like "oh, we want to redo it in 3D, let's push the premier date back a few weeks", that they have some fancy new software to do it? Is it actually just the primary occupation of russia?

Also, I imagine much of this goes away if your scene is full of blue people who are 100% rendered? Since your 'camera' is virtual, having two of them with the proper spacing and pointing would be pretty technically trivial? Though it seems there's a true art to figuring out how to use 3D in ways which aren't just stupid gimmicks.

Some testing I did while watching blue people (not sure if I'm repeating myself)... 3D IMAX -> linearly polarized light - tilt your head and things get ugly, RealD -> circularly polarized light, tilt pretty much however you want...

I remember those halcyon days of yore when I could get a fresh Cheeseburger (story) served up at least once a week. Moderation, that was the key, so I wouldn't gain weight.

Now I sit and waste away, the piping hot goodness, the melty cheese, the bun - round and soft - these are all just distant memories.

Alas, my 'burger must work for a living. The slings and arrows of outrageous employment have taken him away from me.

Come home soon, we miss you!

The Man needs a new job is all, just as soon as he admits it to himself we can move back onto the happily ever after track. It's kinda like Bastian at the end of the Neverending story.

The Man (by which I assume you mean Our Favorite Burger) is working several jobs if I recall correctly. This contributes to the time loss.

Now if we all managed to contribute a few hundred bucks to the cause, THAT might have some effect.

You wouldn't happen to be rich, would you?

Indeed, the work situation has been getting worse and not better, but a more viable longer term solution may now be in the works (q.v. this).

Working on my imminent re-return,
CBB

one day... one day... there will be a new story... it'll be awesome... maybe it'll be a snippet of a continuation of an old story... maybe it'll be a ditty about a doody... perhaps it'll make us gape in wonder. Perhaps it will be those long lost threads tied up.

maybe I just need another cup o' my two-buck chuck!

Wonder if CBB ever got his job-mistress to take him on.

This week I went back and re-read The Taste of Blue. Good stuff. I think I'm about to get my boss hooked on the Burgerverse as well.

Sheik Yerbouti, I see you also felt the itch today. Here's to a soon return of the Burgerverse.

Hope all is well, CBB.

Even the Twitter update is 17 days old. I hope everything's okay.
