Too bad about Acts III through V, though.

The protagonist in that case, Wall-e himself, was a character that subsisted almost entirely on the presumption of anthropomorphisis. This asks little of the audience. The audience is well accustomed to imagining that robots are basically human in their emotional experience -- that is, if they are sophisticated enough to have complex behaviours driven by competing interior motivations, we are safe to assume, as an audience, that these "feelings" feel comparable to human feelings, and that they play inevitably into an ethnical matrix defined in terms of human experience.

So familiar has this device become by now with audiences of all sorts of science-fiction, robot intelligence has been stripped of its most interesting and alien qualities.

I hate Lieutenant Data.

Yours,
Cheeseburger BrownCheeseburger Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384136287767500794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-53605473066140747332011-12-12T16:11:40.474-05:002011-12-12T16:11:40.474-05:00Who doesn't want a hug?
I'm with Tolomea ...Who doesn't want a hug?

I'm with Tolomea on this, but it's worth noting that Bobo only uses force when he has no other choice. In that, he resembles some much more advanced AI that we have seen in other stories.

Mark: Great, now I'm picturing it too.Sheik Yerboutinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-22468398366741248342011-12-12T11:39:46.504-05:002011-12-12T11:39:46.504-05:00Love: "John may have been digging for artifac...Love: "John may have been digging for artifacts but all she really wanted was a hug."Joshua Hemminghttp://www.syntaxerror.ccnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-22430878769418525822011-12-12T09:46:16.740-05:002011-12-12T09:46:16.740-05:00Glad they're out of the trash now. I might stop picturing Wall-E's junkyard surroundings.

Looking forward to Bobo's interactions with those he sees as grandchildren.Markhttp://blog.markwill.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-21051892926832237892011-12-12T02:07:24.735-05:002011-12-12T02:07:24.735-05:00I agree with Tolomea. He has been burned before (literally) and he had demonstrated his willingness to defend himself. Of course, leave it to a bunch of eggheads to smuggle a dangerous robot out of the Junkyard.

I meant to comment earlier that I was amused by the gender bending of the names, especially since they are 50's style stereotypical mens names. Love it, even if it makes my head squirm a bit.

Also: The promised land, where restaurants are found! He must be experiencing a profound sense of relief.SaintPeterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02064605142705446251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-52660766135511892422011-12-11T14:01:11.933-05:002011-12-11T14:01:11.933-05:00I don't have a good feeling about this, curren...I don't have a good feeling about this, currently I see bobo as like a time bomb.
