The powder may be having effects beyond the physical reach of the item sprinkled (ie factories that made the item). In that case, there are many companies out there that could have been affected. Companies that make rubber gloves, sugar bowls, paper, coffee, coffee tins. And that's not even mentioning the clothing that people were wearing when they got powdered.

wzjlc- Whose JLC? At best, he probably managed to affect 10 - 20 people, perhaps more as the day wore on since he did taint the entire tin of coffee grounds.

Since Leslie's company has some 150 employees, this is really just a select chunk of its personnel. They are, however, the personnel who attend meetings with the big boss, so we can imagine a fair disruption to the day's business.

Love,
Cheeseburger Brown

"jrnmz" - A divorcee and her son, named after his father.Cheeseburger Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384136287767500794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-1163688136070788622006-11-16T09:42:00.000-05:002006-11-16T09:42:00.000-05:00simon said: I think I stand corrected on the coffe...simon said: I think I stand corrected on the coffee thing. I work at the HQ of a fairly large business, and I don't drink it.

But the vast majority do.

The real problem I saw with the situation is this: At a company large enough for tens of thousands of dollars to be embezzeled without someone noticing, there is more than one coffee pot. We've got at least one on each floor of five buildings.

Then there's the question of how many people were affected, because last I checked, a pot only holds ~12 cups, unless you're using an industrial sized brewer. Even then, I guess you could say that the powder affected more than just the one batch.

P.

"ewuxinc" -- that's too easy. Mitchell Green, in contrast, was damaging the company by his disruptive loafing, so he gained a renewed a focus on professionalism.

To each according to his faults, the powder addresses their more glaring deficit. This does not clean them of all deficits -- it just gives them a sort of deficit hair-cut. Their worst qualities are trimmed.

Thus it must be understood that those affected by the powder to not become instant altruists or operate impeccably -- they simply find their load of sins one chunk lighter.

At any rate, that's how I see it.

Love,
Cheeseburger Brown

"fryvj" - What's served at the MTV Cannibal Jamboree.Cheeseburger Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384136287767500794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-1163622611192519862006-11-15T15:30:00.000-05:002006-11-15T15:30:00.000-05:00CBB,Bear in mind: he didn't affect "the company" -...CBB,

Bear in mind: he didn't affect "the company" -- he affected its employees. You'd think if he were better, he'd care about the company too (like Mr. Feldman), since if you hurt the company, you hurt anyone whose livelihood depends on it (at least in the short term).

Of course -- as usual -- all of this hinges on the author's perception of morality and ethics, so I should probably just sit back and chill as we wait for Friday.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-1163617748285797772006-11-15T14:09:00.000-05:002006-11-15T14:09:00.000-05:00Dear Sheik,So leaving your office unable to functi...Dear Sheik,

So leaving your office unable to function is "better"?

Bear in mind: he didn't affect "the company" -- he affected its employees. Sheesh, I hope the children weren't IN it at the time...

Again, consider the target: Leslie's great-grandfather did not affect the child workers themselves, he affected the products of the company. Thus, the state of improvement is reflected in the fact that evil conditions no longer existed to produce the tainted textiles. The child labourers benefit from this only in the sense that their slavery comes to an end. Any other suffering they might experience is their own business, and basically unrelated to handkerchiefs.

Myself, I'm pretty sure the mean harm to the children would not be increased by the destruction of the factory or it would not have been destroyed. Back then, I'd have a Coke in the morning if necessary, or maybe tea.

So leaving your office unable to function is "better"? Sounds pretty irresponsible to me. Then again, I don't know what the company does yet.

And burning a factory to the ground? Sheesh, I hope the children weren't IN it at the time... Wouldn't "better" be treating the kids properly (since they probably depended on the income, so letting them go wouldn't have been the best solution)?

Yeah, I know, it's your story, not mine... and yes, I'm still paying rapt attention.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16435271.post-1163614740955779392006-11-15T13:19:00.000-05:002006-11-15T13:19:00.000-05:00Dear Simon,...I wonder that there wasn't any react...Dear Simon,

...I wonder that there wasn't any reaction from non-coffee drinkers in the meeting.

The who?

Listen, I don't even like coffee but I have a cup in order to stay awake through my company's morning status meetings.
